attention snacks in the library.
my insides twist as glances dance
around lamp and fervor. i worry
those eyelashes will peel open my eyebrows and split
apart brain matter, neon citrus coating the crashing sea and perfect sky.
the waves mellow such flavors, cooling
the hot sand packed into my chest and trickling
down the arched glockenspiels of my torso. the sound
paints my lifted cheeks,
salt transmuting sour into sweet.
shiny, white clouds roll into your frame of delight and
plant me there, a plump tangerine reflection.

author's notes:
For this piece, I really wanted to create a sensory experience that was crisp, bright, and summery while also emphasizing a shared experience between an inner and outer world. I also wanted this poem to be a snapshot in time, zooming in and describing how active just a few moments can be. It really makes me think about our contradictory smallness and largeness; just how much impact a few seconds can make. This is definitely a literary photograph in an attempt to keep a moment.
